GPS metadata messages store detailed GPS fixes, with sub-second timing, heading and velocity on each axis.
Moment the message refers to, in UTC. FIT stores it as seconds since the FIT epoch (December 31, 1989, 00:00:00 UTC); decoders usually expose it as a regular date.
Millisecond part of the timestamp, for sub-second precision.
Latitude. FIT stores coordinates as semicircles: multiply by 180 / 2^31 to get degrees.
Longitude. FIT stores coordinates as semicircles: multiply by 180 / 2^31 to get degrees.
Altitude, with a larger range than the altitude field. Prefer it when present.
Speed, with a larger range than the speed field. Prefer it when present.
Direction of travel.
UTC time given by the GPS, to correlate it with the system time of the device.
Velocity along longitude, latitude and altitude.
mesgNumStringGlobal message number identifying the kind of message. Decoders use it to know which profile to apply to the data.
