SelfSync

Explore your database with DBeaver

DBeaver is a free, open-source database tool that speaks to almost any database, DuckDB included, through the official DuckDB JDBC driver. It is heavier than TablePlus but comes with an ER diagram, data export to many formats and charts on query results.

Get started

  1. Install DBeaver

Download DBeaver Community from dbeaver.io, or on macOS with brew install --cask dbeaver-community.

  2. Add a DuckDB connection

Choose Database → New Database Connection, search for DuckDB and select it. In Path, browse to your selfsync-db.duckdb file.

  3. Install the driver

Click Test Connection: DBeaver offers to download the DuckDB driver. If it does not, open Database → Driver Manager, edit DuckDB and use Download/Update in the Libraries tab.

  4. Run a first query

Expand the connection in the Database Navigator to browse the tables. Open a SQL editor with Ctrl + ] (Cmd + ] on macOS) and run the query with Ctrl + Enter.

    SELECT z_sport AS sport,
           count(*) AS sessions,
           round(sum(z_total_distance) / 1000, 1) AS km
    FROM z_fit_session_mesgs
    GROUP BY ALL
    ORDER BY km DESC;

Good to know

  • Tick “Read-only connection” in the connection settings to make sure you never modify your data.
  • Right-click a table and choose View Diagram to see how the tables relate through file_id.
